forget to use the first finger of the right hand in addition to the two fingers and thumb of the left hand. Unless this is done the note will be slightly out of tune.
The importance of smooth playing cannot be too strongly emphasized. The recorder player should not think of a series of notes to be fingered correctly, but should aim at making a melody flow along. It is worth while listening to a good instruĀ­mentalist on the radio just to take note of how smoothly the melody flows. This is setting a high standard but it must be a recorder player's ideal at which to aim.
The player will be able to achieve this only when he is absolutely certain of the fingerings of the various notes. Exercises and tunes already learned, therefore, should be reĀ­vised frequently, so that the notes become melodies. Example 16 is a tune which includes the note Bb as well as Bnat and is one of the oldest English tunes in existence.
